Designed as a multipurpose sports arena, the Velodrome hosted track cycling events and\u00a0judo competitions during the Games, as well as wrestling<\/strong>,\u00a0basketball, tennis, gymnastics, figure skating, and even ice hockey competitions <\/strong>after the Games. Its versatility allowed it to host\u00a0numerous\u00a0events, such as bingo games and conferences.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\nSince 1992, the Velodrome has been given a new lease on life. It contained 980 apartments surrounded by terraces<\/strong>, designed to accommodate all delegations except for equestrian and yachting athletes. The Village offered a variety of services, including shops, hair salons, and a bank. There were also several entertainment venues, including a cinema, music room, nightclub, and swimming pool. <\/p>\n\n\n\nConstruction began in December 1974. On April 5, 1976, RIO was commissioned to complete the project. Construction work required extensive filling and state-of-the-art technical installations, including start and finish towers, marked lanes, and temporary bleachers for thousands of spectators. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Designed to host rowing and canoeing events<\/strong>, the basin met the highest international standards from the moment it opened. <\/p>\n\n\n\nMeasuring 2.2 km long, 110 m wide, and 2.5 m deep<\/strong>, it remains the largest artificial rowing basin in North America today.
